John Doswell, Media and Communications Consultant Combining extensive experience in all presentation media - live, captured, written, spoken, visualized, automated... ...with maritime skills, public waterfront savvy, and a love of nautical tradition. Media Experience Mr. Doswell's was a pioneer in multimedia presentations for corporate presentations since the mid 60's, when he developed many of the techniques that defined the industry. Since 1971, he has been the co-owner and President of Doswell Productions, a full service production and software development company for corporate communications and business theater events of all kinds. He is a writer, designer and computer systems designer/programmer. He has written, produced, designed, or technical directed hundreds of industrial shows/films/videos, including over 200 projects for IBM alone, as well as for clients such as Heublein, Shaklee, de Beers, MCI, and many others. Mr. Doswell's skills as a writer include skits, speeches, presentations, screenplays. As a designer, his experience and capabilities include multimedia presentations, videos and films, theatrical sets and lights, brochures and other printed media. Mr. Doswell's talents encompass live talent shows as well as automated media presentations. In addition he is an accomplished computer programmer and database systems designer. Waterfront & Community Experience Mr. Doswell is very involved in community affairs, particularly in relationship to the Hudson River waterfront. He is First Secretary of Manhattan Community Board No 4, as well a co-chair of the Waterfront & Parks Committee. In addition, he is the founding Chair of the Friends of Hudson River Park, a large organization that advocates for and supports the building of Hudson River Park, a five-mile long waterfront park than spans the tip of Manhattan to West 59th Street on the Hudson River. Mr. Doswell was previously involved with the passage of the Hudson River Park Act, that led to the formation of the Hudson River Park Trust, a city/state agency charged with building the park. Mr. Doswell also serves on the board of the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, New York Windstar, Friends of Pier 84 and the North River Historic Ship Society, and is a member of Floating the Apple as well as the Advisory Council of the Hudson River Park Trust. He is also active in the quest to reclaim Governors Island as public land, to prevent it from being sold to a private developer. Mr. Doswell was co-author of Maritime and Aquatic Activities in Hudson River Park. Maritime Experience Mr. Doswell is also a sailor and owner, with his wife, Jean, of the 51' blue water ketch Laissez Faire and previously owned and operated a 47' power boat, Unicorn. He has experienced a transatlantic crossing in a similar sailboat as first mate (New York to the Azores, 1985), a challenging midwinter NYC to Bermuda crossing (Jan 2001) and extensive cruising experience on Long Island Sound and south to the mid Chesapeake Bay region, as well as in San Francisco Bay and Florida. In addition, he has experience crewing and piloting the 140' 600 ton restored lightship FRYING PAN and is one of the pilots, as well as part owner, of a 130' retired NYC Fireboat, John J. Harvey. He has organized numerous maritime events, including a parade of boats and water-based activities for three consecutive Hudson River Park Day waterfront celebrations, facilities coordinator for the 15-mile Liberty Cup Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe Race in 2001 and 2002, safety coordinator for the Floating the Apple America Star Invitational race, safety and escort vessel for the 2001 Great Hudson River Paddle, participating vessel in OpSail 2000, and chief organizer for the 500-boat Flotilla to Reclaim Governors Island on 2 June 2002, and organizer of a parade of WTC rescue vessels as part of Sail for America on 14, September, 2002. He was the designer of a concept plan for Pier 84, and a contributing designer for Pier 76, elements of which have been adopted into the design for Hudson River Park. Experience Now Mr. Doswell has just completed a 6-year participation in a mega software development project for a major computer manufacturer which is currently deployed worldwide as the primary e-based order validation and fulfillment tool for the company's line of business. He is now available for individual consultation as well as for consideration for an appropriate new venture that combines his many talents and hands-on knowledge of the disciplines described above.
